festive time of year

time is passing quite nicely here, a strange in between period as christmas nears. already platania seems like quite a long time ago, i feel i must visit soon…
sad to be missing christmas in platania, christmas celebrations are taken very seriously i hear, sounds like even more drinking and eating than the august festas, if that’s possible.
the platanese don’t really take no for an answer when it comes to having a big party. don’t think i ever told the story of how the festa platanese in august ended for us… after a very full day of celebrations, me and ulf headed home for the evening and left the locals to finish the last few litres of wine/beer left. at about 5 in the morning i was awoken by loud singing and shouting outside our house. first i thought it was just some random drunk kids but then i realised that they were chanting ‘tim, ulf…’. it was of course our very grown up friends who had drunk a bit too much and thought that the party should continue at our house. we (wisely!) refused to let them in and after a while they gave up and went home, kindly leavng us a bag of beers outside our door, just in case we needed another drink. nice. i expect similar behaviour at christmas, so i will suggest that ulf finds a secret location to sleep in. looking forward to the stories.
i’ll be off to japan for christmas to see my family which i’m very much looking forward to. also looking forward to having a camera again, having sold mine to michelangelo, so i’ll post some photos from there and will try to write a bit since it’s a bit more exciting than going to work here…
