going back a bit
not much going on here, just enjoying a bit of time to myself and waiting for someone to get back to me on something. a strange time but i should enjoy the peace and quiet while i can i think…
i’ve kept promising to write about our finland trip at the beginning of october, but never got around to it. i’ve done a lot of promoting calabria, so i should now promote my other ‘home’ finland as well (japan to follow shortly too…).
so. this was the 3rd finland trip of this kind, usually planned around somebody’s birthday. this time it was mine and sarah’s birthday, although this is largely immaterial as the realy focus of the holiday is sitting in a sauna a lot. this trip was no exception with every day ending with a 2-3 hour sauna session. naked people running down to the water in the dark with torches on their heads was quite a sight…
we stayed at petra’s parents summerhouse on åland which is absolute heaven (thanks to petra’s family and peter for the amazing hospitality). the house easily accommodated the 12 of us and we were so comfortable that we hardly left the house.
it is a wonderful thing to be able to experience foreign places with friends, just like we have done in calabria; i feel very lucky to know such wonderful places and to have friends who are ‘brave’ enough to come on these trips.
