friends

sitting at home in london, finally. this afternoon is the first time since the end of may that i have been able to enjoy my own space and it’s great. don’t get me wrong, i love spending time with people and have been lucky to have stayed in some amazing places but after 6 months one starts missing one’s own space.
speaking of spending time with people in places, i wanted to take this opportunity to thank our great friends who came to visit us in platania. besides doing the house, my main goal of the whole platania experience was to spend time there with my friends. we had a steady stream of people visiting (not too few, not too many), which gave us convenient breaks from working on the house. many friends also helped out with the house, which we are very grateful for, of course.
it was an absolute joy sharing all that calabria had to offer and introducing them to the characters of platania. some of them liked it so much that they came back again (meri & costi) and others seriously considered not returning home. robert is still there, over a month and one missed flight later…
i especially enjoyed visiting the bar with our guests, watching them naively attempting to pay for drinks. they soon realised this wasn’t possible, the platanese have an amazing covert way of paying for drinks (and restaurant bills) before one even realises it. a special skill.
thank you so much for visiting (starting top left): lassi, lydia, peter, virva, sam, robert, jim, andrea, costi, silvia, juha and meri. ian and sarah also visited, but i wasn’t there at the time, so no photos, sorry. i hope you will all visit again soon.
